Good Fashion Designers Don’t Cheat!

For anyone hoping to become a fashion designer, it is crucial to appreciate the work of others but to be careful not to copy.  While training as a student you are expected to study and research historical and contemporary clothing for cutting techniques and stylistic details, and to draw and analyse the work of past and present notable designers.  To be inspired by the work of other designers is a natural thing.  However, it is important to understand the difference between influence, homage and plagiarism. When you “borrow” from other sources, make sure they are acknowledged and that you build your own creative propositions rather than claiming the work of others as your own.  Examiners take a very dim view of plagiarism and you would risk outright failure if you cheat by copying designs and or essays or reports.
