If you’re planning to rent a car in the Triangle area of North Carolina or in another part of the country, you need to be able to make an informed decision about what kind of car you want to rent — and the company where you’ll be renting it. Here are some tips from the Federal Trade Commission.
Think about what size of car you’ll need — and how much money you’re willing to spend.Call several companies for an estimate before committing to one. Travel agents are also good at checking rates.See if the company checks the driving records of potential customers — if you have a record with accidents or a DUI, it might be hard for you to get a car.Also, check to see if there are hidden charges — many companies advertise a low base rate, only to pump up the price through insurance charges not listed in the ad.
Know this going in, and you have a good chance of renting the car you need.
