Genital Warts Treatment: Medication

There are different treatments for genital warts. Among them are medications. Until recently, genital warts are treated by applications of podophyllum resin, a corrosive substance, on the infected area. This treatment option is prohibited to pregnant women as they may harm both the mother and the unborn child. Because of this, a milder form of podophyllum is introduced. It is called podofilox. In some cases, women are also treated with 5-flourouracil cream, trichloroacetic acid or bichloroacetic acid. All these substances irritate the skin, thus burning the warts, and require weeks of treatment. The treatment may cause a great deal of discomfort to women.
