Are gold coins minted now as a common currency?
The answer to this is simple, no the common form of currency in today’s day and age is cash and credit. Some countries still mint gold coins today such as the US, but more for collective purposes. Now some of these coins can be redeemed for their face value, but are worth much more as a collective item. The as a collective item gold coins are no longer “worth their wait in gold”, but much more. They have aspects that collectors look for more then just date and circulation. The collectors look for history and rarity. This means some of the coins can be used in circulation, but are much better as commemorative item, leave the purchasing to cash and credit.
