My parents’ engagement was a rather unique event. When my father proposed, they were no longer a couple. They met in New York, but when my mom decided to go back home, she broke up with my father. Depressed, my father went out drinking with his friends, and as luck would have it, he got mugged on his way home and ended up in the hospital. When word reached my mother, she rushed back to New York to be with him. While in the hospital, my father decided to propose, and since he had no ring with him, he presented her with his college cufflinks.
